I wrote this bio many years ago (first publication date of this page is October 27, 2009!), and it needs an update, but for now, it is what it it, LOL. (I will probably write a new one, and keep the old one, just for the record of the evolution of this website and my own.)
So, here it goes.
October 27, 2009. Confession: This website is a result of my passion. I started it many years ago, when I found out about green smoothies, juices, and raw foods and witnessed first-hand the amazing transformation of my health – in just a couple of months – more energy, skin improved, seasonal allergies gone (that took a little longer), more mental clarity, and most importantly – no more getting sick three or four times per year, and wasting over a month each year on feeling pretty miserable.
I was excited about these changes I experienced — and wanted to let everyone know that there is hope! That you don’t have to suffer, or take pills all the time, that there is a better — and more delicious way!
Especially, since I have been reading many success stories about people who conquered all kinds of ailments with this simple habit – not just colds, flues and allergies.
So, being a web designer and online marketer at heart, I did what any self-respecting web designer would do: I created a website, put together a simple recipe book for people to download for free in exchange for an email address, wrote several blog posts about this topic, and then … pretty much forgot about it (the website, not the green smoothies!) as I got busy with my life. Fast forward a couple of years, and I had a following of thousands of people on Facebook and an email list of 5,000+ subscribers.
It was really quite amazing!
I thought to myself “Wow, there is obviously a need for that. People want to live healthier; they want advice and inspiration, and recipes. I want to continue to inspire them.” So I kept posting and even wrote and sold a couple of eBooks, and made some money in the process.
Even though I didn’t start the green smoothie revolution, I feel like I contributed in my own small way to green smoothies becoming so popular today. I’ve received many emails from people who thanked me for the information and let me know that it helped them improve their health.
My dream is that everyone has this information and that some day, green smoothies and freshly made juices will be available in all school cafeterias, cafes, restaurants and fast food places — after all they are the ultimate fast food — easy to make and sooo good for you!
My mission is to spread this knowledge and help create a ripple effect that transforms the world.
So, who am I?
My name is Joanna and I’m a green-smoothie addict, author, writer, creator, work-from-home web designer, and Mom; who also likes to travel (as you see in the picture) to the beautiful places around the world, and is passionate about the environment and compassionate living.
I have been searching for a long time for easy ways to improve my family nutrition without having to be stuck in the kitchen for hours, having to nag anybody to eat the healthy foods that I prepare, or having to buy expensive supplements that promise you perfect health, but may be in fact be bad for you.
Let me tell you a little bit about my past. When my son was little he suffered from terrible eczema due to milk allergies. He also has been hospitalized when he was just 4 weeks old and spent entire week on full spectrum antibiotic drip in confined to a hospital bed.
I suffered similar problems. I was getting sick at least 4-5 times per year, and my colds and flues seemed to last forever – many weeks at a time. I struggled with my weight and experienced various skin problems, including a mysterious (at least to me!) condition called acute urticaria. I started to experience nasty seasonal allergies, even though I have never been allergic before to anything in my life. I suffered terribly with my eyes itchy, throat blocked with mucus, and generally feeling awful for 4-5 weeks in spring and in the fall – two of my favorite times of the year. Diabetes has been in my family for generations: my grandmother was a diabetic, my father is diabetic, and during pregnancy I almost developed prenatal diabetes myself. As if that was not enough, I learned I have hepatitis C, that I most likely acquired during appendicitis operation some 40 years ago, before there was even any knowledge that this virus existed.
I saw many doctors, but they were not providing me the answers I needed to get well, just various pills and steroid ointments for my son’s eczema, that were just masking the symptoms of potentially serious underlying problems.
During my conversations, when I was trying to get to the bottom of these issues, I was not getting any answers. What the doctors were basically telling me is that we don’t know why most diseases happen and there is not much that we can do to prevent them.
For a long time I also thought that way. I knew that “healthy living” is important, but I was not sure what that really meant – whatever solution I got, there seemed to be a contradicting advice that seemed to say just the opposite. I was trying to live and eat healthy, but I was really confused by everything that I was reading and hearing. I believed that disease can strike anyone, any time out of the blue, and we have no control over our health whatsoever – I also had a feeling that there must be a better way. That it’s impossible that nature, by creating us, would set us up for such terrible failure – all these diseases and suffering. This just didn’t seem right!
But finally I came across eye-opening books and advice that really spoke to me and everything started to make sense. I got rid of various supplements and pills that I was trying and decided to get back to the basics.
I strongly believe that nature has set us up for success, and that means vibrant health, energy, optimum weight and freedom from chronic disease – if we only take charge of our health and follow the nature’s way.
Health is our birthright and the most important thing that we have. Without it, we cannot be alive (at least not for all), we cannot take care of our loved ones, we cannot work and we cannot enjoy life to the fullest!
You can really get confused with all the the information that is out there, and especially since so much of it is contradictory. You can look up any scientific study and in almost every case you will find the complete opposite for it. What most people don’t realize is that scientific studies are often swayed by those who fund them. What you read in the papers and online, is often inaccurate or only tells a part of the story. Big money is being spent on media campaigns and public relations, and much of what you read is nothing more than clever marketing disguised as scientific health advice.
And who has the time to read it all and get to the bottom of it to find out the truth?
Certainly, most people don’t have time to do it. And new parents are especially busy, and yet they need this information the most.
The truth is achieving optimum health doesn’t have to be hard or complicated.
That’s why I decided to share the information that I found and the strategies that I use every day – that only take about 10-15 minutes at most – to ensure that my family stays healthy.
The important part is to understand that – ultimately – YOU are the one who is responsible for your own well being, and the well being of your children, and that you shouldn’t hand over the responsibility for your health to anyone else, regardless of their title and scientific credentials.
And we must teach our children to do the same!
I hope the information on this website will help your family – and your kids – achieve super-immunity with these SUPER-EASY, SUPER_FUN, SUPER-FOOD green smoothie recipes!
I want everyone to start with drinking green smoothies and eating blended salads – instead of energy drinks, sodas, and eating all the junk food that seems to be everywhere we turn – as this simple habit will certainly help you feel better and look younger. And it’s really SIMPLE and EASY to implement.
I would also like to hear your stories, if you would like to share them with me.
To your health,
Joanna
