A couple of weeks ago, as I was watching TV with my son on an early Sunday morning, I came across Montel Williams’ Health Master infomercial that attracted my attention. As I was surfing channels, the title of the program intrigued me – so I decided to watch it to see what this is about.
I have to say I really enjoyed the presentation. Montel Williams was making green smoothies and serving it to the audience – including kids who said that they don’t like spinach and other greens – and everybody loved it. My son was also excited to see something that he drinks every day on TV.
About Health Master Blender
Because making green smoothies is something I do every day and it made such a tremendous difference in my nutrition, I was happy to see a promotion of green smoothies on TV.
I didn’t know who Montel Williams was before, but since that I learned that he is a former talk show host and U.S. Navy officer, that is today officially known as the HealthMaster. Montel Williams announced that he had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1999. In his book Living Well: 21 Days to Transform Your Life, Supercharge Your Health and Feel Spectacular, Williams recommends drinking “green smoothies” for a “blast of nutrition and energy.”
But Health Master Blender is promoted as much more than just a blender. The Healthmaster will make everything from hot soups to cold ice cream in one step. It can do the job of up to 20 kitchen appliances, including a blender (of course), food mill, nut butter maker, meat grinder, coffee mill, spice grinder and latte whip or other milk frothing apparatus (I’m quoting after the myhealthmaster website).
I was also intrigued by the Health Master Blender that was promoted at the price of about $200 – half the price of Vitamix and Blendtec that I recommend on this site. Could it be a more affordable alternative to Vitamix and Blendtec? Perhaps I could promote it here too?
So I decided to do a little research to compare Montel Williams Health Master vs Vitamix vs Blendtec – to see how they stack up.
Here is what I found out.
Montel Williams Health Master Blender vs Vitamix vs Blendtec
I have to say I was super excited to see an infomercial promoting green smoothies on TV. I think Montel is doing a great job. I loved the energy and enthusiasm that he brought into his presentation – because I truly believe a good blender is one appliance that every family should have in their kitchen. You can see a part this presentation on Youtube.
When I went online and started researching and reading all the negative reviews left on Amazon and other sites, I learned that this blender doesn’t really compare to the two Super Smoothie-Making, Ice-Blasting machines that Vitamix or Blendtec are. It is cheaply made, does not provide good warranty and customer support and starts having all kinds of issues very quickly – not good if you are expecting years and years of use from your investment.
The following table presents a side-by-side comparison of features of the two of my favorite blenders plus Health Master blender.
Best Blender for Smoothies: Which Smoothie Blender Should You Buy?
In my opinion it’s not worth it to skimp on your blender.
That is why I recommend that you get the best blender you can afford – such as Vitamix or Blendtec.
Look at it as an investment that will pay for itself in the long run both in time and in your health.
A quality blender will save you frustration and will last you for many years to come, whereas a cheap machine can break after just a year or two, waste your time, money, not to mention health – because you will most likely not use it as often as you should.
In conclusion
Ultimately, it’s up to you. You need to decide what is really important to you and how much you are willing to spend. If you are new to green smoothies and already have a blender just start experimenting with what you have, or if you are on a tight budget, you can buy a blender for $20 or $100 anywhere.
Of course, how much money you have to spend is a big factor. But, if you go around and ask people, they will tell you that – as with everything else in life – you get what you pay for.
If you get really serious with making green smoothies and other creations, an inexpensive blender like the Health Master may disappoint you.
As it turns out, even Montel Williams in his book “Living Well” he talks about using Vita-Mix blender for making smoothies.
That’s why I recommend Vitamix or Blendtec as two of the best blenders to buy. The higher investment that you will have to make initially will pay for itself many times – as any of these blenders will withstand years of heavy use as you make your healthy green creations.

I need to get replacement books for my healthMaster blender. Can tou please help me.
Thanks,
Mike
I purchased a Healthmaster for my husband last year. He drinks smoothies everyday and we have not had a single complaint. I have friends with a Vitamix and did look into that route but after reviewing this machine and buying the upgraded version I am very happy with it. The ice button is perfect for smoothies as it gets all of those little pieces that would get caught in a normal cheap blender. I make all of our own rice milk in this blender and now I don’t have any wasted rice(like I did in my old machine). I think if the Vitamix is too expensive for your family the Health Master is a nice alternative at about half the price(upgraded version) and they stand by all of their warranties. We had a problem with the first pitcher and they sent us a new one asap with no questions asked. The only complaint I do have is the recipe book. It is horrible and some of the recipes are way off or downright wrong. I did notify the company but not sure if that was changed. In my book that is minor as I can find recipes online anytime.
Hello,
I bought the Montel Williams Healthmaster about a year ago. Today it stopped working and Im heartbroken. I dont h ave the manual anymore or the recipe books. But nevertheless I cant get it to start up. Heartbroken in AZ, my son has Leukemia and I was using it to make all of his food and nutrition. Can anyone help?

When you are preparing food for guests, you should be wearing rubber gloves when handling raw food.
I am a big veggie/fruit eater. Washing hands – is not enough when preparing for others!
After reading reviews on the new Healthmaster Elite. It seems that the manufacturer has addressed all of the previous issues with the first Healthmaster that was released. I agree with a previous reviewer-not everyone can afford $400-$500 emulsifiers/green machines. Another reviewer mentioned hers was purchased last year which would mean that was before the machine was improved. If it quit working…that is usually a motor issue and the Healthmaster motor from day one has had a lifetime guarantee. Customer Service needs to be called and the blender returned so a replacement can be sent asap. Overall, I am completely satisfied with my Healthmaster and I have put it through it’s paces…consistent-daily-heavy use and have not had any problems. I think it just boils down to what you personally prefer and your budget. I give Kudos to Montel for signing on to try and direct people out of a dietary dead end and into a better nutritional state that could save them countless health issues in the long run.
Thank you for your comment. It does seem like a great option for people on a limited budget!
I NEED A CONTACT NUMBER FOR THE HEALTH MASTER BOUGHT IT NEVER PLUGGED IT IN TODAT THE MIDDLE MOTOR IS BROKEN IT IS NOT TURNING ON PLEASE HELP
ITS SOO TALL IT DONT FIT IN ANY OFF MY CLOSETS
@ Ann Borden. On the bottom left corner of the Health Master there is a reset button. Plug the blender in, hold in the button for about 5-10 seconds. The blender should start working again.
My daughter and I purchased a Montel Williams HealthMaster VS, Model YD2088, approximately 2 years ago. There is something wrong with the motor. When using, it makes a terrible grinding noise and smells like something is burning. Mind you, this is not a machine that was used everyday and I think we should be able to get a lot more use out of it than we did. We are affraid to use it, now. You advertise the motor has a 100 year guarantee but according to customer service it is “too old”. As I said, we bought it about 2 years ago. Can you Help?
Thank you, Margaret Hunter
What a let down. This was a Christmas gift from my family to help me with diabetic issues. It’s been used no more than a dozen times and now the pitcher blades wont even turn. Locked up tight as it can be. Now they want 79.00 for a faulty part. What is right about this Montel. I never thought you were a fraud untill now. thanks for nothing buddy.
I got my HealthMaster recently. It works well. I like it alot. I also agree with a previous commentor above that the recipe book is not very good, poor in fact. The instructional video doesn’t say much. I still do not see any instructions on how to make soup or icecream.
I would like to donate some money to Montel. Its sad to see him endorse THE “NEED MONEY TODAY SCAMS” and the crap he has been doing lately. So much for his career.Could’nt happen to a better person.
PURCHASED MY HEALTH MASTER (1200 WATT) 6 MONTHS AGO. IT PRODUCES A VERY SMOOTH GREEN SMOOTHY. I HAVE NO COMPLAINTS, BUT DID PURCHASED ADDITION WARRANTY WITH IT. THANKS TO YOU AND OTHER SITES ON MAKING SMOOTHIES I HAVE QUITE A LARGE RECIPE BOOKLET. TAKE WITH A GRAIN OF SALT ABOUT ONLINE GRIPES ABOUT THE HEALTH MASTER. PERHAPS IF YOU BUY ONE AND PUT IT THRU HARD USE AND LET US KNOW HOW IT PERFORMS, THEN WE ALL MAY GET A BETTER IDEA OF ITS RUGGENESS. THANKS
This is one of the biggest scams out there. I bought a healthmaster elite 4-10-12. The motor burned up in Feb. 2013. Had to pay another $30 for a replacement base. It burned up on April 26, 2013. I called and was informed the 60 day warranty was up so it would be another $30 for a replacement. What a load of #$%^!. Sorry, I am so angry at this company for their shoddy practices. I am buying a Blentec. It has good reviews. Should have looked at reviews out there first. This appliance i a piece of junk.
I bought my health master two years ago, I upgraded and got the six year extended warranty. One of my cousins was using it to make ice cream and even though she was told repeatedly not to lift it off the base until the blades completely stopped, she did lift while in motion and the cup would no longer sit properly and operate. I was in the middle of a move and couldn’t find my paper work on it. Finally a year later I did a Google search and found the customer service number and called, I explained my situation and the customer service agent couldn’t have been nicer, he looked up my info and told me how to send it back, I think it cost twenty five to cover the postage to send me a new unit. If you’ve never used it I don’t believe you can really make an accurate review. I have a new respect for tomato soup, it is so good using fresh tomatoes, I can’t eat the canned version anymore. I’ve made several creamy style soups, mixed veggie beef and cheese broccoli are some of my favs. I haven’t written the recipes down but I see on the net there are many out there. Strawberry ice cream is so easy, frozen strawberries, a little fat free half and half, sweetener of your choice, takes about a minute and a half, so yummy and on a low carb diet, the perfect treat. Seriously people if your spending this much money you might as well get the extended warranty. I’ve never used the other machines mentioned so I can’t bad mouth them. I use this one at least once a day and I love it.
Thank you Leslie, for your review. Extended warranties are certainly worth it. How much did it cost you (the blender with the warranty)? I’ll update the post with your recommendation.
Purchased Montel Williams blender about a year ago and it just blew up this morning…..will not replace with another Montel Williams product, but will replace with another product…for the price, it should last longer…..but it was good while it lasted….
